The 2011 Mustang is coming, but is it too Late?

The 2011 Mustang is coming, but is it too Late?

The 2011 Mustang. Who says the manufacturer’s horsepower wars are over?

Compared to the new Camaro’s 3.6 liter DOHC (dual overhead Cam) V6 making 300 horsepower in the 2009 Camaro, a 200 horsepower 4.0 liter V6 Mustang looks like a choice for your dear old Auntie.

Ford recently announced a new,  3.7 liter V6 will power the 2011 Mustang. Already a familiar sight in the LIncoln, the powerplant will be hot rodded from its current 273 horsepower, to 315 hp.

That’s good news for Mustang enthusiasts, but is it enough to compete with the other contenders as well. Even Hyundai, with its 2010 Genesis coupe will come standard with a 3.8 liter V6, producing 306 horsepower.

While 0-60 mph times are not the ultimate base for comparison, we are talking about new cars, that are considered to be performance cars. Also 0-60 times give you a good idea of how these cars compare side by side.

Right now, the base 2010 Camaro with its base V6 engine runs a 0-60 mph in 5.9 seconds compared to the V6 Mustang’s best time of 6.5 seconds. The 2010 Genesis, meanwhile, with its optional V6 is even faster than the Camaro, posting a 0-60 time of only 5.5 seconds.

That performance compares more closely to the 2010 Mustang Gt, with its 300 horsepower V8 whose 0-60 times are only sightly quicker at 5.2 seconds.

So is the 2011 going to be too late into the V6 performance fray? Being a Mustang fan, I hope not. C’mon Ford, you guys started the pony car craze and re-started it with the 2005 Mustang. Forget Carrol Shelby, get those SVT boys and girls moving and lets get that lead back!

Help answer the question about 2011 ford mustang

Around how much would it cost to insure a 2011 Ford Mustang V6?
Will the fact it's a Mustang mean I get charged a lot. If you think about it, it's not really more powerful than any of your luxury vehicle engine, and the car isn't that expensive. But it is called a Mustang. The car is really powerful (305 hp), but it's not a GT, so will I have to pay an arm and a leg? I pay about $800 a year for my RSX Type S currently.
