Nissan plans major China capacity hike by 2012

nissanBEIJING (MarketWatch) — Nissan Motor Co. (7201.TO) plans to raise its annual production capacity in China to 900,000 vehicles by 2012, Carlos Ghosn, president and chief executive of the Japanese auto maker, said Friday.

The target is nearly double its total annual production capacity of 535,000 vehicles at its plants in China.

Ghosn, who was speaking at Auto China 2010 in Beijing, is also chief executive of Renault SA (RNO.FR), which owns a 43.4% stake in Nissan. The Japanese car maker holds a 15% stake in the French auto maker.
